About Zambia
Half of the population of Zambia is under the age of 16. Extreme poverty and AIDS have caused a nation of children to lose their parents. Of those 6 million children, 1 million of those are orphaned.
Think about all of the people you know over the age of 40. Imagine not knowing anyone. The average life expectancy in Zambia is a shocking 38 years.
Chances are you could find a dollar in coins in your car or stuffed into your couch cushions, but in a country with almost 70% unemployment finding a dollar is not as easy. About 86% of the population of Zambia lives on less than $1 a day.
About Family Legacy
In June of 2000, Greer Kendall traveled back to the country of his birth – Zambia, Africa – for the first time since he had left as a 6-year-old boy. It was a trip that changed everything. Returning again in July and again in September with his wife, Susan, the Lord began to open Greer’s eyes to the stark and shocking reality of the orphan crisis happening in this south central African country.
Zambia was a land in crisis, on the brink of destruction and the children were quickly becoming a lost and abandoned generation. Greer established Family Legacy in September of 2000. Since then we have been dedicated to one goal: transforming Zambia one child at a time.
Family Legacy accomplishes this mission through our three main ministries: Camp LIFE, Father's Heart and the Tree of Life.
